Care Instructions for Sanitary Acrylic

Whirlpools made from sanitary acrylic are enduring, relatively skid-proof and pleasant in contact with skin. The smooth, pore-free surface is dirt- and bacteria-repellent as well as very hygienic, because bath water residues cannot stick to it. This makes this material easy to clean and to care for.

Normal Care

Wipe out the tub after use with a sponge or a soft cloth as well as some soap or dish detergent, and rinse it afterwards. This way the material keeps its colour brilliance for a long time. Always use water for the cleaning as small particles may leave tiny scratches behind on the material. Do not impose too much pressure while cleaning because the surface might blunt and tarnish.

Oil emulsive stains and spots (e.g. from hair tinting lotion) should be rinsed immediately. This prevents them from drying out in the tub, which would cause unsightly discolouration.

If limescale forms on the surface over time (e.g. through a dripping tap), this can be removed easily with some diluted household or lemon vinegar.

Special Care

Scratches or dull spots caused by inattention or by other means can be mended with a special polishing paste for sanitary acrylic from a specialty store. Alternatively car polish may also be used for the cleaning. However this should be clarified by an expert before using it on the material.

Not recommended for the cleaning of sanitary acrylic are the following means:

• sandy scrubbing agents (they scratch and tarnish the surface)

• antiliming agents developped for hot water equipment (the chemicals included may discolour the surface permanently)

• organic solvents like drain- or steel tube cleaner

• cleaner containing alcohol

Limescale inside the nozzles

In rare cases limescale may form inside the nozzles. If this happens you should abstain from the use of descaling agents because they damage the whirlpool. Furthermore the use of water softeners is advised against because they could block the pipes with lime residues. In this case it is recommended to lower the pH of the water to a level between 7.0 to 7.6. Please consult an expert for further information.

For Outdoor Whirlpools: Disinfection with chlorine

It is important to check the chlorine level of the water frequently. The ideal level should be between 0.6 to 1.0 mg/l. Avoid chlorine tablets or liquid chlorine; only use chlor granulate. Make sure to dissolve it in a bowl beforehand and distribute it in the center of the whirlpool while the pumps are still on. Undissolved chlorine might cause bleach spots.
